Acerola
Malpighia emarginata
We have found acerola to be one of the highest naturally occuring sources of vitamin C. It is also a great source of vitamin A, (as beta carotene) and also contains vitamin B1, B2, and B3, as well as carotenoids and bioflavonoids, which provide important nutritive value and have antioxidant uses. Acerola is reported to help with free radicals, toxins, and stresses; repair of wounds, scar tissue, fractures and pain relief.
A comparative analysis of antioxidant potency among a variety of tropical fruit and commercialized frozen fruit pulps was carried out, including the acerola. Among the 11 fruits tested, acerola was the highest-scoring, meaning it had the most antioxidant potency. (9)
